Single parents, got any tips on dating? I mean, it’s scary, the stories you hear.?

Statistically, Mom’s new boyfriend is most likely to be the molestor if the kids get molested. Conversely, innocent guys sometimes get their reputations besmirched by a kid falsely accusing him of abuse because the kid wants the boyfriend out of the picture. Plus it’s hard to build a new relationship with the ex is trying to cause problems. You don’t want the kids feeling neglected or slighted but, on the other hand, you can’t just stay celibate until the youngest turns 18, can you? What’s your viewpoint?

Get to know him better. Don’t introduce him to your kids until you are sure he is not a kid molester.

Best advice I can give you is to spend as much time with your kid(s) and less time worrying about dating. Also, when you do date someone, don’t bring them around your kid(s) so they don’t see a revolving door of men. I have been a divorced parent for 10 years, and I think that it is easier for men to accept someone elses kid(s) than it is for women. So, in essence, if you choose your men wisely, I dont think you will have to worry about the molestor coming into your house. Wait til you bring him around your kids.

Basically, (without sounding to harsh – I hope), I sounds to me that you should see a therapist (to work on yourself, and dealing with some of the issues that plague you). Hopefully, she’ll be able to help you deal better with the ex, and working on making sure that your children are safe and happy.
